LADY MARGARET FLEMING

Elspeth Crocket

Lady Margaret Fleming

Lady Margaret played a huge part in the grooming and nurturing of Robert the Bruce’s son David II when he became King David II at the Manor House and lands of Strathleven. It is highly probable that she moved also to Chateau Gaillard in Normandy France during the young King's exile as she spoke native French. Her husband  Robert Fleming became famous for ‘finishing off’ John 'the Red Comyn' at Grayfriars Church on that fateful day.

She lost her own son ‘The Earl of Athol’ at the battle of Halidon Hill in 1334.
